How to view Wikipedia page in blackout
Wikipedia has announced the 24 hour blackout of its website on 18th January 2012, to protest against Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA).
I also accept the motive behind the blackout. and its true that a day without access to Wikipedia is really hard!. I had some urgent need to get clarity on few topics through Wikipedia articles, but unfortunately it was on blackout protest day. So, I had find out some work around to view and read Wikipedia articles when it is on blackout protest.
When I visited the Wikipedia English page, I found that its initially taking me to the respective page then its going to the SOPA and PIPA protest page.
So I tried two methods to view the required pages.
Method 1: I made use of the Google cache: You need search for the topic availability in Wikipedia.org using Google site specific search options. If you find that a related article is shown in the Google results then view the cached page of the same.
Method 2: As the site is showing the blackout page after loading the actual page, I gave a try by disabling the JavaScript in my browser. And, it worked it will not show the blackout page if you disable JavaScript in your browser.
Disable JavaScript in Google Chrome
Wrench Button -> Options -> Under the Hood -> Content Settings -> JavaScript section select “Do not allow any site to run JavaScript
Disable Java Script in Mozilla Firefox
Firefox Main Menu -> Options -> Options -> Select “Content” section -> Uncheck the Enable JavaScript option, and press OK
Internet Explorer 9
Settings icon -> Internet Options -> Security tab -> Scroll down to scripting section select Disable radio icon under Active scripting.
